If the leaders of Lebanon really wants peace, they should diplomatically recognize the state of Israel and open up an embassy in the country. Both Beirut and Tel Aviv have large educated, forward-looking populations. Both have their beaches, nightclubs, and restaurants. Both have diverse populations. Both have suffered under Islamist terrorism. Both nations share a common, indisputable border. Hezbollah may talk about defending Lebanon from Zionist aggression, but it is a puppet of Syria and Iran- which have their own plans for tiny Lebanon.

Prime Minister Fuad Siniora must look forward and take the brave step. The same step taken by Turkey, Egypt, and Jordan. He must recognize Israel. Hopefully then the two states could look to each other with the same spirit of neighborly friendship as that of King Solomon and Hiram of Tyre.
