More Pine Hills photos

A streetcar rail pops up on Quail Street and State Street. Streetcars haven't rolled down these streets since the 1940s. Though the building on the right is boarded up, the paint job looks fresh. Reminds me of 1970s South Bronx, where abandoned buildings were given fake windows to give passing motorists a good impression of the borough.

An unstable-looking staircase on Spring Street.

In NYC, it's hard to tell where Harlem ends and Washington Heights begins, but in Albany neighborhood names are clearly delineated and visibly on street signs. This sign is on my block. Here's a pine facing an alley. Forgive the camera flash, it was after sunset.

If this is Pine Hills, where are the pines? So far, I've only found two, hiding in a backyard.
Arbor Hill
Old buildings, antique streetlights
such a beautiful cornice, ugly windows.

window detail

Like a gap-toothed smile, the skyline of Arbor Hill reveals inner-city population decline, empty lots between the buildings, creating some open spaces. On the right, a restored stable ad.
Downtown Alleys

Cheesy display of patriotism. Yellow magnets will create a force field to prevent cars from crashing into it!

Albany City Hall. Behind it is Ten Eyck Plaza, an ugly corporate tower. On the right is another view of Albany City Hall, with cobblestone paving. The Capitol is in the background.

Beautiful masonry on this corner turret.
