This mural proposal is located on a highly visible pedestrian overpass connecting the Queens neighborhoods of Forest Hills, Corona, and the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The overpass also traverses two highly traveled highways. The park hosted the 1939-40 and the 1964-65 World's Fairs, where unusual architecture briefly occupied the park. Today, only a few remnants of the World's Fairs remain standing, including the Queens Museum, the New York State pavilion, and the Unisphere.
Because the Pavilion towers were sued in the science fiction movie Men in Black, I added flying saucers into the mural to mimic the towers. Orange and blue colors throughout the mural hint at the Mets baseball team, whose stadium is located within the park. At this time, the overpass ramp is a tempting target for graffiti vandals. Covering it with a mural would instill a sense of history and future to the otherwise bland overpass.
